A New Chapter for INJ Tokenomics

The Injective community has always had a hand in shaping the network. But in late 2025, that role got a lot more concrete. Injective launched the Community BuyBack, a program that puts INJ holders directly at the center of the chain’s tokenomics.

Here’s the short version: once a month, participants commit INJ tokens and receive a pro rata share of the revenue generated across the Injective ecosystem. The committed INJ is then permanently burned. Gone forever. You help reduce supply, and you get paid for it.

Four rounds in, the numbers speak for themselves: average participant earnings of ~23.9%, burn sizes growing round over round, and more community members getting involved each month. How the Community BuyBack Works

The BuyBack runs monthly. Four steps, all onchain:

Whitelist Selection. Active Injective users are eligible. From that pool, a randomized process selects the whitelist. No gas wars, no bots. Real users get priority.
Slot Reservation. If you’re whitelisted, you reserve a slot on Injective Hub. Slots are limited and go fast. The very first round filled in under 24 hours, and the team had to add 90 extra slots to keep up.
INJ Commitment. You commit INJ during the commitment window. The total INJ committed by all participants becomes the burn pool for that round.
Revenue Distribution & Burn. When the round closes, you receive your share of ecosystem revenue in USDT and other tokens. All committed INJ is permanently burned onchain. Everything is public: slot reservations, commitments, burns, distributions. You can verify it all yourself.

Results So Far

Before the monthly buyback rounds began, Injective ran a burn auction that removed 6.78 million INJ from circulation. That’s roughly 7% of total supply, worth about $32 million at the time. The recurring monthly program kicked off right after.

Each round has been bigger than the last. Burns went from 36.9K INJ to nearly 55K, and participants haven’t earned below 20% in any round yet. The BuyBack pool grows as Injective ecosystem revenue grows, so the trajectory should continue.

The Bigger Picture: INJ Supply Squeeze

The BuyBack is part of something bigger. The INJ Supply Squeeze, approved through governance proposal IIP-617 with 99.96% of votes in favor, is a broader deflationary framework that ties multiple burn mechanisms together.

It works like this: the Supply Squeeze combines the monthly Community BuyBack burns with Injective’s existing burn auction. More ecosystem activity means more revenue in the BuyBack pool, which means more INJ burned, which means less supply. The loop reinforces itself, and participants benefit at every turn.

With over 6.78 million INJ removed at launch and 178,338 INJ burned through four community rounds, the numbers keep climbing.

How to Participate

Five steps. That’s it.

Be Active on Injective. Whitelist eligibility is based on real usage. Stake INJ, use Injective dApps, vote in governance. The more active you are, the better your chances.
Check Your Eligibility. When a new round is announced, go to Injective Hub and check the Community BuyBack section. If you’re whitelisted, you’ll see the option to reserve a slot.
Reserve Your Slot. Slots are limited. Move fast when the window opens.
Commit INJ. Commit however much INJ you want during the commitment period. Your revenue share is proportional to your commitment relative to the total pool.
Claim Your Rewards. Once the round wraps up, go to Injective Hub → Community BuyBack → Burn History and hit Claim next to your round. Your INJ has been burned, and your revenue share is ready to collect.
