What is the Community BuyBack?

The Community BuyBack is a monthly onchain event that allows anyone to take part in Injective’s deflationary mechanism. Participants commit INJ, and in return receive a pro rata share of the revenue generated across the Injective ecosystem. The INJ exchanged is then permanently burned, reducing the total supply of INJ.

This process rewards the community, increases scarcity of INJ, and aligns long-term value with ecosystem success. The Community BuyBack evolved from the original Burn Auction, replacing the winner-take-all model with a simpler, more accessible, and community-driven design.

Example

For clarity, let's take a look at a hypothetical example of how this all plays out. Say for a given month:

The Community BuyBack basket is valued at 10,000 INJ for the month (comprising INJ, USDT, etc.)
Total number of slots (participants): 180
You commit: 50 INJ
At event conclusion, the total community commitment equals: 9,000 INJ
Result: 9,000 INJ burned
You receive: (50 / 9,000) × 10,000 = 55.55 INJ or equivalent value (may comprise INJ, USDT, etc.)

As you can see, the cumulative 9,000 INJ committed by the community is exchanged for the 10,000 INJ worth of tokens in the Community BuyBack basket. The 9,000 INJ committed by the community is then burned, and the 10,000 INJ worth of tokens is distributed to participants pro rata. In this example, the person committing 50 INJ received 55.55 INJ worth of tokens following the conclusion of the Community BuyBack event.

When is it?

The first Community BuyBack event opened for public participation on October 23, 2025. The actual buyback and burn event itself will occur one week later on October 29, 2025. During this 7-day window, anyone can secure their spot in the event by following the details below. But don’t wait too long, slots are limited and distributed on a first-come-first-served basis.

How to Participate

Secure Your Spot

Once per month, a fixed number of reservation slots open. Anyone can reserve a slot while they remain available on the Injective Hub.
Commit INJ

Reserve your slot by committing INJ within the displayed minimum and maximum limits. Commitments are made onchain during the event window and cannot be altered once submitted.
Claim Earnings

When the event concludes, all INJ commitments are exchanged for the revenue collected that month. This revenue, made up of multiple different tokens, is distributed pro rata to all participants.
To claim, simply go to Injective Hub → Community BuyBack, and press Claim next to the round you participated in under Your History.
INJ BuyBack & Burn

The total INJ collected from all participants is permanently burned, reducing the total supply of INJ.
